Explosive revenue growth, soaring AI memory demand, and a $75 billion shareholder return program strengthen investor confidence in the semiconductor sector.
SK Hynix (SKHY) shares surged more than 9% Wednesday after the South Korean semiconductor giant reported record quarterly revenue and profits, easing investor concerns surrounding the sustainability of the artificial intelligence boom.
The company reported a 328% increase in quarterly revenue to approximately $78.7 billion, while operating profit skyrocketed 632% to $62.7 billion, representing an impressive 80% operating margin.
The results sparked a broader semiconductor rally, with Samsung Electronics climbing 9% and Micron Technology (MU) advancing 4%.
Growth was primarily driven by accelerating AI data center investments, rising memory prices, and initial shipments of next-generation HBM4 memory chips.
SK Hynix revealed that more than 50% of its production capacity for 2027 and 2028 is already secured through long-term agreements, highlighting sustained demand.
The company also expects AI-related memory shortages to continue through 2030 as adoption expands into robotics, autonomous vehicles, and enterprise applications.
RBC Capital Markets analyst Srini Pajjuri suggested the semiconductor growth cycle could extend another five quarters.
Meanwhile, SK Hynix announced an additional $45 billion in shareholder returns, bringing its annual buybacks and dividends to approximately $75.2 billion.
The results reinforced Wall Street’s optimism surrounding AI infrastructure spending and continued semiconductor industry expansion.
