Massive Tremor Prompts Evacuations, Disrupts Flights, and Raises Tsunami Alerts Across Region
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, confirmed the safety of all its workers following a significant earthquake that struck Taiwan early Wednesday. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.4 in Hualien County, caused building collapses and triggered tsunami advisories in neighboring Japan and the Philippines. Despite the destruction, TSMC assured that all evacuated personnel were returning to their workplaces, with factory operations gradually resuming.
The quake disrupted flight schedules in Japan, with some Japan Airlines and ANA flights canceled. Tsunami advisories issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology heightened regional concerns. Although Taiwan’s stock market experienced a dip, the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation reported normal operations following system checks.
This seismic event serves as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters and underscores the importance of safety protocols and disaster preparedness for both businesses and communities. As recovery efforts begin, TSMC and other affected entities remain vigilant in assessing the quake’s impact and ensuring the well-being of their personnel amidst the disruption.
