New Cloud Region in Madrid to Boost Digital Transformation and Compliance
Oracle (ORCL) announced on Thursday its commitment to invest more than $1 billion over the next decade in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing infrastructure in Spain. This significant investment aims to meet the rising demand for Oracle’s services within the country and support Spanish organizations in their digital transformation journeys.
The funding will be directed towards establishing a new cloud region in Madrid, Oracle’s third in the city. This new region will enable customers to transition their workloads from on-premises data centers to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Additionally, it will aid Spanish enterprises in adhering to regulatory requirements such as the European Union’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) and the European Outsourcing Guidelines.
Oracle will partner with Telefonica España for this project. The first cloud region in Madrid was launched in 2022, marking the beginning of Oracle’s expansion in Spain.
Albert Triola, Oracle Spain’s country leader, expressed the company’s dedication to fostering digital innovation in Spain. “We are reaffirming our commitment to helping Spanish organizations of all sizes and industries accelerate the adoption of cloud technologies to boost business performance,” he said.
José Luis Escrivá, Spain’s minister for digital transformation and public administration, highlighted the impact of this investment on the country’s public and private sectors. “The investment will help Spanish enterprises and public sector organizations innovate with AI and continue advancing on the path of digital transformation,” Escrivá stated.
The investment comes at a time when Oracle has forecasted double-digit revenue growth for fiscal 2025, surpassing analysts’ expectations and signaling strong demand for its AI-driven cloud services. This robust demand underscores the importance of expanding Oracle’s cloud infrastructure to cater to the needs of various industries in Spain.
In addition to this investment, Oracle has recently announced strategic partnerships with prominent tech companies. Collaborations with OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, and Google Cloud are set to further extend Oracle’s cloud capabilities and provide enhanced services to its customers.
By establishing a new cloud region in Madrid, Oracle not only strengthens its market presence in Spain but also provides local businesses with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The investment is poised to drive innovation, improve business performance, and ensure compliance with stringent EU regulations.
Oracle’s commitment to Spain is a testament to the company’s broader strategy of expanding its global cloud infrastructure and reinforcing its leadership in AI and cloud computing technologies. As Spanish organizations increasingly embrace digital solutions, Oracle’s investment will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital transformation in the country.
