Qualcomm Surpasses Expectations with Strong AI-Driven Growth

Chipmaker forecasts robust sales and profits, fueled by smartphone and PC demand

Qualcomm (QCOM) exceeded Wall Street expectations with strong fiscal first-quarter results and a bullish forecast for the current quarter, driven by the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI)-powered smartphones and laptops.

For the fiscal first quarter, which ended December 29, Qualcomm reported sales of $11.67 billion and adjusted profits of $3.41 per share, significantly surpassing analyst estimates of $10.93 billion in sales and $2.96 per share in profits, according to LSEG data. Building on this momentum, Qualcomm projected fiscal second-quarter sales with a midpoint of $10.75 billion and adjusted profits of $2.80 per share, both topping analyst forecasts of $10.34 billion and $2.69 per share, respectively.

The world’s leading supplier of modem chips, Qualcomm has benefited from the increasing integration of AI features into consumer electronics. The company’s chips power a wide range of devices, including smartphones, laptops, and PCs, where AI capabilities are becoming a key differentiator.

A major contributor to Qualcomm’s optimistic outlook is its expanded partnership with Samsung Electronics. Last month, Qualcomm announced it had secured a significant global deal to supply chips for Samsung’s flagship smartphones, bolstering its position in the competitive mobile market. Additionally, Qualcomm is collaborating with Microsoft and leading PC manufacturers to develop laptops and computers powered by its chips, further diversifying its revenue streams.

Headquartered in San Diego, California, Qualcomm’s continued innovation in AI and connectivity technologies has positioned it as a key player in the semiconductor industry. As AI-driven features become standard in consumer electronics, Qualcomm’s strategic partnerships and product offerings are expected to drive sustained growth in the coming quarters.
