Ideal Power (IPWR) is partnering with Stellantis’ (STLA) advanced technology development team to develop a custom B-TRAN power module for use in electric vehicle (“EV”) drivetrain inverters in Stellantis’ next-generation EV platform.
Innovating ahead of schedule, Phase II heralds the fruition of B-TRAN modules for Stellantis, paving the path for Phase III and the 2025 production milestone.
The announcement surfaced today regarding the successful culmination of Phase II deliverables under a collaborative product development pact with Stellantis NV.
Teaming up with Stellantis’ avant-garde technology division, Ideal Power is crafting a bespoke B-TRAN power unit tailored for integration into the drivetrain inverters of Stellantis’ forthcoming EV platform.
With its array of advantages, B-TRAN finds itself under scrutiny for potential incorporation into the automaker’s vehicle power management system and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
All Phase I obligations were met, encompassing a wafer production cycle and dispatch of packaged and tested B-TRAN components and evaluation platforms to Stellantis and its packaging associate. Technical assistance, along with comprehensive performance analysis and test results, was also furnished by Ideal Power.
Phase II obligations concluded expediently, encompassing a wafer fabrication cycle and delivery of tested B-TRAN components and drivers to both the packaging partner and the entity responsible for crafting the inaugural drivetrain inverter.
The impending Phase III endeavors entail the completion and transfer of all Phase I and II obligations to Stellantis’ production unit.
Ideal Power and Stellantis are presently outlining the framework for the subsequent phase, anticipated to encompass rigorous testing of the bespoke B-TRAN module to ensure compliance with automotive certification benchmarks, positioning it as the cornerstone of the powertrain inverter for Stellantis’ forthcoming EV lineup, with a target of readiness by 2025.
Dan Brdar, CEO of Ideal Power, remarked, “Our achievements with Stellantis serve as a springboard to engage other automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.”
