Surging Bitcoin, stablecoin regulation, and crypto-friendly sentiment fuel investor enthusiasm for USDC issuer
Circle (CRCL), the company behind the widely used USDC stablecoin, continued its remarkable stock rally Monday, rising over 15% to trade near $122 per share. The surge marks the third consecutive day of gains since its blockbuster IPO last week, with shares now trading nearly 300% above the offering price of $31.
The bullish momentum comes amid a broader wave of optimism in the crypto market. Bitcoin has surged to all-time highs above $110,000, and crypto-friendly signals from the Trump administration — including support for stablecoin regulation and the president’s personal business involvement in the sector — have fueled investor confidence.
“Having a crypto-friendly administration, the legislation … plus the fact that larger financial institutions are considering launching their own coins, these are all tailwinds and votes of confidence in the stablecoin market,” said Brianne Lynch, head of market insight at EquityZen, in an interview with Yahoo Finance.
Circle’s public debut marks a major milestone in its long-anticipated journey to the stock market. The company previously attempted to go public via a SPAC deal in 2021, but the plan was shelved a year later.
As the issuer of USDC — a stablecoin backed 1:1 by the U.S. dollar — Circle currently has $60 billion in circulation, making it the second-largest stablecoin provider after Tether. Its business model relies heavily on “reserve income,” or interest earned on the cash reserves backing the USDC tokens.
Circle’s red-hot debut also reflects growing institutional interest in digital assets, with several public companies now emulating MicroStrategy’s bitcoin treasury strategy. As regulatory clarity improves, Circle appears well-positioned to benefit from the mainstreaming of stablecoins in global finance.
