Mixed signals emerge as BTC hovers near key levels amid uncertain market direction
Bitcoin (BTC) is approaching a pivotal moment as it trades near $67,200, on the verge of either breaking a rare five-month losing streak or extending declines into uncharted territory. According to Compass Point analyst Ed Engel, Bitcoin has never recorded six consecutive monthly losses in its 17-year history, making the current setup particularly significant for investors.
After declining steadily from October through February, Bitcoin has shown signs of stabilization, trading within close range of its February closing levels. Notably, the cryptocurrency has demonstrated relative resilience compared to traditional assets. Over the past month, the S&P 500 has fallen roughly 6%, while gold prices have dropped around 10%, highlighting Bitcoin’s evolving role as a potential store of value during periods of market stress.
Despite this resilience, sentiment remains divided. Engel cautions that blockchain data continues to reflect bearish flows, suggesting the possibility of a retest of the $60,000 level. He characterizes the recent price action as a “relief rally” within a broader crypto downturn, rather than a definitive trend reversal.
Other analysts share a cautious stance. Market participants are being advised to remain flexible and preserve capital until clearer signals emerge. However, not all views are pessimistic. Bernstein analysts have expressed confidence that Bitcoin may have already reached a bottom, maintaining a bullish long-term outlook with a $150,000 price target by the end of 2026.
Supporting this more optimistic perspective is renewed institutional interest. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) now hold over 6% of Bitcoin’s supply, while major corporate holders such as MicroStrategy continue to accumulate significant positions.
As Bitcoin hovers near a critical inflection point, the coming weeks could determine whether the market is preparing for a recovery—or bracing for further downside.
