In partnership with EDF Renewables IL, Tel Aviv inaugurates an innovative renewable energy milestone
Eco Wave Power Global AB (WAVE), a pioneer in onshore wave energy, will unveil Israel’s first wave energy pilot station in collaboration with EDF Renewables Israel and Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality. Set to debut on December 5, 2024, at Jaffa Port, this groundbreaking initiative is a major milestone in the renewable energy sector, harnessing the power of sea waves to generate clean electricity.
The pilot project, located at Warehouse 2 in Jaffa Port, is a crucial step toward Tel Aviv-Yafo’s sustainability and innovation goals. The city aims to strengthen its reputation as a global leader in green energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and tackling climate change. The launch will feature an inauguration by Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai, attended by senior officials from the energy sector, investors, and key stakeholders.
Built through a collaboration involving EDF Renewables Israel and supported by Israel’s Ministry of Energy, Eco Wave Power’s project stands out as the first instance of wave-generated electricity being supplied to Israel’s national grid. Recognized as a “Pioneering Technology” by the Ministry of Energy’s Chief Scientist, this pilot has positioned Eco Wave Power at the forefront of wave energy innovation.
Inna Braverman, Founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power, highlighted the significance of the project: “The launch of Israel’s first wave energy power plant is more than just a technological achievement—it’s a powerful statement about the future we envision. This project at Jaffa Port represents a historic milestone in the global renewable energy journey, proving that sea waves can be a viable, clean, and consistent source of electricity. We are proud to collaborate with EDF Renewables IL, Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, and Atarim to place Israel at the forefront of wave energy innovation.”
EDF Renewables Israel, a branch of the global EDF Group, is equally enthusiastic about exploring marine energy’s potential. CEO Ayalon Vaniche emphasized the importance of partnerships with innovative companies like Eco Wave Power, saying, “Our partnership gave birth to a unique pilot that harnesses wave energy to produce clean electricity. We have a strong interest in assessing the potential of this new technology, as part of the broad interest of EDF Group for marine energies.”
The pilot project is also a testament to Eco Wave Power’s commitment to advancing green technology through impactful leadership. Braverman, a graduate of the “Women for Climate” program by C40 Cities, is an environmental advocate who brought her innovative vision to Tel Aviv-Yafo’s Environmental and Sustainability Authority. Through this program, women receive mentorship to lead projects focused on urban sustainability and climate resilience.
As Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality joins hands with Eco Wave Power, EDF Renewables, and C40 Cities, this wave energy pilot station is expected to pave the way for further clean energy solutions. With this initiative, Eco Wave Power not only advances Israel’s renewable energy landscape but also reinforces Tel Aviv-Yafo’s commitment to climate action and sustainable innovation, creating a model for urban centers worldwide.
