Amazon’s Move Into Nuclear Energy Puts These Companies in the Spotlight

Amazon (AMZN) has made headlines once again, this time with an agreement to explore nuclear energy as part of its clean energy strategy. The company recently announced a deal with Dominion Energy, a leading utility provider in Virginia, to develop a small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) near Dominion’s North Anna nuclear power station. This initiative is part of Amazon’s broader ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and support its growing cloud computing and generative AI services, both of which require enormous amounts of energy. Amazon isn’t alone in embracing nuclear energy; other tech giants like Google and Microsoft are also tapping into this alternative power source for their data centers.

Amazon’s bold investment in nuclear power highlights the growing appeal of nuclear energy as a reliable, carbon-free solution for industries with high energy needs. This trend is good news for companies involved in nuclear energy production and SMR technology. Here are four nuclear stocks that investors should keep an eye on in the wake of Amazon’s announcement:

1. Constellation Energy (CEG)

Constellation Energy is a key player in nuclear power generation and clean energy solutions in the United States. The company operates the largest fleet of nuclear plants in the country and provides energy to millions of homes and businesses. With a strong focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy, Constellation stands to benefit from increased interest in nuclear energy. As tech giants like Amazon invest in nuclear to meet sustainability goals, Constellation’s expertise and infrastructure could be vital in supplying reliable, emission-free energy to power data centers.

Investors might see Constellation as a solid option due to its leadership in nuclear energy and its positioning as a clean energy provider in a market that increasingly prioritizes sustainability.

2. Vistra Corp (VST)

Vistra Corp is another company with a strong presence in the energy market, particularly through its nuclear and renewable energy divisions. The company owns and operates the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant in Texas, one of the key assets in its clean energy portfolio. As nuclear power gains traction as a sustainable solution for high-energy industries, Vistra could emerge as a major supplier of carbon-free electricity.

Vistra has been expanding its footprint in renewable and nuclear energy and could be poised to capitalize on the growing demand from tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, all of which are looking for sustainable energy to fuel their massive data operations.

3. Oklo Inc. (OKLO)

Oklo Inc. is a startup focused on developing advanced fission technology, particularly small modular reactors (SMRs). These reactors are much smaller, more efficient, and safer than traditional nuclear power plants, making them ideal for providing clean energy to data centers and industrial operations. Oklo has been at the forefront of the SMR movement, which has attracted increasing attention from companies and governments looking for scalable, low-carbon energy solutions.

Amazon’s partnership with Dominion Energy to develop an SMR could bode well for companies like Oklo, which are working on bringing this next generation of nuclear technology to market.

4. NuScale Power Corporation (SMR)

NuScale Power is one of the pioneers in the small modular reactor space. The company has developed a scalable nuclear power solution that could change the landscape of clean energy. NuScale’s technology offers the flexibility of modular nuclear plants, which can be deployed to meet varying energy needs. Given Amazon’s interest in SMRs, NuScale is well-positioned to benefit from the growing demand for nuclear power in sectors requiring high reliability and sustainability.

As the world’s largest tech companies turn to nuclear energy, NuScale could see increased interest from investors and partners eager to adopt its technology.

Conclusion

Amazon’s decision to invest in nuclear energy signals a broader trend among tech companies seeking clean, reliable energy to meet their growing operational needs. As Amazon, Google, and Microsoft move toward nuclear solutions, companies like Constellation Energy, Vistra Corp, Oklo Inc., and NuScale Power are likely to benefit from this shift. For investors looking to tap into the nuclear energy boom, these four stocks are worth watching closely.
